Forage and Feasts
I am currently in the process of moving myself and my practice to St. Louis, Missouri. Yay for exploring our roots! I am still available for private forage and feasts beginning August, 2022 in the St. Louis area. Please contact me if you are interested in setting up a private Forage and Feast. I will not be public offering forage and feast events until the spring of 2023.
Learn how to forage for edible and medicinal plants and enjoy a delicious 5 Course “Forest to Table” feast using the plants we collect together.
During this hands-on workshop, we will explore native and introduced plants growing around the host area. We will learn how to identify these plants by their basic family characteristics, as well as their edible, medicinal, and poisonous properties, giving reverence to indigenous use when applicable.
Throughout our day, we will harvest edible plants to later prepare a beautiful 5 course meal together.
The meal will be rounded out with organic foods donated from local farms, as well as plants locally harvested and preserved by Mel Kasting.
5 Course Meal will vary depending on the time of the year and what is available to forage on the land we hold classes on, but here is a sample Menu:
1st Course: Herbal cocktails/mocktails with Gluten-free Dandelion Tempura. Served with fermented radish and creamed ramps
2nd Course: Arugula and violet chevre salad with pickled redbud dressing
3rd Course: Wild Mushroom soup
4th Course: Spring Greens Pesto pasta with peas and black walnuts
5th Course: Caramelized spicebush and wild rose custard with warm herbal tea
You will leave this event satiated in mind and body, armed with plant connection and the knowledge to create a “Forest to Table” meal of your own! Please wear comfortable walking attire and bring a basket or bag to carry your harvest. Meal will be vegetarian, with vegan and gluten free options. Preregistration is required for these events. Prices vary.
